Why study the Bachelor of Creative Arts?

The Bachelor of Creative Arts at UQ provides students with exciting opportunities for a future in the creative arts. Students will become experts in creative theory and its cultural context. They¿ll then be able to apply their knowledge to explore the creative practice. What you learn in this program will not only guide you through your first job but your whole career. In the program you are able to concentrate on your areas of study and build the skills, like analysis and problem-solving, to give yourself a multitude of work options upon graduating. There are a variety of career paths and for leadership and management within the Creative Arts sector. Careers developed from this program include: writer, curator, critic, actor, art gallery director, arts manager, editor, director for theatre or film, film maker, public policy in the arts, theatre director or teacher. You will engage with industry professionals in the course of the program and will gain the expertise to become leaders in your chosen field.

What you can study

The BCreativeArts program offers majors to introduce students to the interpretation of creative works. The core practice-rich disciplines are offered as a major or an extended major: Drama, Music, Writing.
Majors to complement the core practice rich majors comprise: Art History, English, English Literature, Film and Television Studies, Media Studies and Popular Music.
Students can undertake two majors, an extended major and minor with elective courses to complement majors or develop skills.

What you can do with a Bachelor of Creative Arts

Careers

Graduates are able to demonstrate a range of skills that make them attractive to a wide range of employers in the creative arts industries.

Program rules for the Bachelor of Creative Arts

To complete the Bachelor of Creative Arts

To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Creative Arts, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

A student is required to obtain #48, comprising:
(a) #4 from Part A
(b) either -
(i) two single majors, one of which must be from Part B; or
(ii) (A) an extended major, which must be from Part B; and
(B) a minor in a different field; and
(c) the balance of electives from Parts B and C or other courses approved by the Executive Dean.

Students are also requested to note the following rules:

  • a course can only count towards one major;
  • first #8 must be from Parts A, B or C;
  • minimum of #28 at advanced level courses;
  • no more than #32 may be from a single field.
