Why study the Bachelors of Medicine, Surgery and Science?
UQ is investigating structural changes to the University¿s medical program, including the three dual MBBS programs. It is anticipated that these changes will come into effect in 2015. The BSc/MBBS is available to Year 12 applicants only. Domestic students apply via QTAC as part of the Year 12 MBBS Provisional Entry Sub Quota. International students apply to UQ International and QTAC. Students may only study BSc majors in: biomedical science, mathematics, psychology. This program produces highly skilled doctors capable of meeting future challenges in a wide variety of careers. The program emphasises problem-based learning and group work. Students work cooperatively on a series of patient-centred problems, each designed to highlight principles and issues in health and disease. Early patient contact and clinical training develop high levels of clinical skills and medical knowledge. Key features include: simultaneous learning of basic, clinical, biological and social sciences; improved teaching of communication skills; learning approaches that encourage lifelong learning skills; ethics and professional development; and the incorporation of information technology skills to ensure graduates are able to utilise technological advances to improve their skills and knowledge acquisition
