Why study the Bachelors of Music/Education(Secondary)?
The Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Education program is tailored specifically for students wishing to pursue a career in music education. This program offers students two years of practical music studies, followed by three years where students take courses relevant to their specialisation in music education. Eligible students may choose to undertake honours study in music education in their fourth year, and final Year students have the opportunity to undertake teaching area courses that investigate the P-12 Music syllabus, instrumental teaching and choral music education. Graduates are thoroughly prepared for the variety of teaching contexts expected of music teachers throughout primary and secondary school.

Placement courses
The professional year of the Music Education program requires that students complete placement within schools under the supervision of a fully qualified and registered teacher. This is a requirement of the Board of Teacher Registration and students must meet the conditions of the Board in order to qualify for teacher registration. The university arranges this placement on behalf of the students and this process is handled by an appointed person in the School of Education. To complete the Bachelors of Music/Education(Secondary)
To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelors of Music/Education(Secondary), a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #80 comprising -
- (a)#48 in accordance with the BMus list; including-
- (i)#32 from Part A Years 1 and 2; and
- (ii)#16 from Part B (excluding first year elective courses) and
- (i)#8 for Part A compulsory;
- (ii)#8 for Part A electives; and
- (iii) #16 in accordance with Part B.
