Direct Entry: Met the threshold score in each section of the GAMSAT (Graduate Australian Medical School Admission Test) or, for international students only, the MCAT (Nth American Medical College Admission Test) in the year of application or previous year, and achieved a GPA of 5.00 in a recently-completed key degree; or Provisional Entry: Met the threshold score in each section of the UMAT (Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test) in the year of application or previous year, achieved an OP1 or Rank 99, and achieved a GPA of 5.00 in a recently-completed key degree.

Why study the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery?

This graduate entry program produces highly skilled doctors capable of meeting future challenges in a wide variety of careers. The curriculum has been designed with an emphasis on problem-based learning and group work. Students work cooperatively on a carefully planned series of patient-centred problems, each designed to highlight principles and issues in health and disease. Early patient contact and clinical training develop high levels of clinical skills and medical knowledge.

The program's key features include: the simultaneous learning of basic, clinical, biological and social sciences; the improved teaching of communication skills; the use of learning approaches that encourage lifelong learning skills; the incorporation of ethics and professional development as an integral part of the program; and the incorporation of information technology and computing skills to ensure that graduates are able to utilise technological advances to improve their learning skills and knowledge acquisition.

Placement courses

All MBBS students are required to have a Blue Card (The Working with Children Check) issued by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian by first day of classes. Students must also have a current Senior First Aid Certificate and provide evidence of immunisation. Students in years three and four of the program undertake clinical rotations within the School's clinical schools (including Rural clinical school for domestic students only). Students are liable for additional costs associated with attending clinical placements.

MBBS (Direct Entry for Graduates): International students can apply via UQ International, through an Educational Representative, or via ACER. Only complete applications meeting the minimum entry requirements will be considered for offer. A new partnership between UQ and the Ochsner Health System in New Orleans has developed the UQ-Ochsner MBBS program for approximately 40 USA citizens and USA permanent residents each year. NB: Subject to approval by the Australian Medical Council (AMC). International students completing year 12 in Australia

International students may apply for the Provisional Entry via UQ International and QTAC while in their final year of secondary school in Australia. Academic advising

Domestic students may apply for the MBBS (Provisional Entry for School Leavers) via QTAC while in their final year of secondary school. Students who receive a provisional offer may enrol in any of UQ's bachelor degree programs prior to commencing the graduate entry MBBS program. Students may opt to fast-track their undergraduate degree by enrolling in one of the six-year dual programs, the Bachelor of Arts/MBBS, the Bachelor of Science/MBBS or the Bachelor of Health Sciences/MBBS.

To complete the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery

To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

A student is required to obtain #64 from the MBBS List. Refer to MBBS rules for further information.
