Why study Structural Engineering?
How do we build a better Australia? What kind of sustainable infrastructure can support our future populations? How do we harness the potential of digital technologies to improve the cities of tomorrow? These are some of the exiting challenges that structural engineers are working on. ItÂ's a powerfully diverse and practical discipline, with the ability to drive real progress on the issues that matter and the ways we live. The structural engineering major allows students to extend the fundamental knowledge of materials and structural mechanics to more advanced design problems. You will develop the capacity to create innovative solutions to structural engineering challenges using a variety of materials including steel, timber and concrete. Application of digital design and construction technologies is also part of this training. You can also pursue courses to build your knowledge of the role of wind loading, fire safety and sustainable design. State of the art teaching and laboratory facilities combined with world leading lectures and strong industry engagement will provide graduates of this major with a strong foundation from which they can contribute immediately to structural engineering projects in industry.
