Why study Social and Community Entrepreneurship?
The Social and Community Entrepreneurship major is positioned for students seeking to be social change leaders in a 21st century context. Important skill foci are social entrepreneurship and community development. Such a combination will appeal to a broad array of social science students with a passion for social change but who would like to combine their social science specialization with business and entrepreneurship studies. This combination of social science and entrepreneurship recognizes that sustainable change often requires sustainable resources. Students will undertake theoretical and applied units to understand social entrepreneurship through social enterprise. In these courses, students will work in teams on social issues of their choosing and be guided through the entrepreneurial process for building a financially self-sustaining venture designed for social impact. Importantly though, students will combine this enterprise level focus with understanding how to also build communities.
