Why study Russian?
The Russian language is spoken by 258 million people worldwide, including 150 million native speakers. Russian is a key language for science and technology and diplomacy. This is the case for chemistry, physics, geology, mathematics, and biological sciences, agriculture and aerospace engineering as well as information technology. Russian is a language of strategic importance in Australia, US and UK, a language spoken in the UN, World Health Organization and aboard the International Space station and is the #2 language of the Internet content. In the Russian minor, you will be taught a carefully structured student-centred language curriculum and gain communicative and intercultural competence through active and flexible learning and interaction with native speakers of Russian. You will be able to communicate across a range of situations when the topic is familiar to you, such as work, studies or social life. Depending on whether you start with or without previous knowledge of Russian, you may reach the Basic User (A2) or Independent User (B1) level on the Common European Framework of Reference.
