Why study Natural Systems and Wildlife?

Students undertaking the Natural Systems and Wildlife major are taught to use scientific, social, economic and managerial information in natural systems and wildlife conservation and management. This major combines fundamental biological studies with multidisciplinary skills in environmental management, decision making, problem solving and policy analysis. The final year develops the ability to manage complex problems that threaten the survival of natural systems. Students undertake a four-week field trip to western and northern Queensland to study the ecology and management of arid zones, the wet tropics, terrestrial and marine tropical environments. Students undertake a 16 week integrated industry study in a related work situation where they complete an approved project on natural systems and wildlife management. Honours may be undertaken as part of the fourth year of the program.
