Why study Middle Years of Schooling?

The middle years of schooling field has been developed in response to a growing need in Australian schools for teachers who have a knowledge of the policies, programs and practices for teaching students in the middle years.

Currently, most teachers have trained as primary or secondary teachers, and therefore often do not have specific knowledge of young adolescents and the implication for curriculum and pedagogy. This field meets this need by providing the specialised knowledge and skills for educators wishing to increase their expertise in teaching young adolescents and become the future leaders of middle years of schooling reform
