Why study Mental Health Nursing?
This plan has been formulated to meet the increasing demand for nurses in the area of mental health. As students progress through the program, critical thinking and advanced practice skills will be developed along with an increasing awareness of assessment, diagnosis and management of the mental health care needs of people. There is a strong emphasis on the use available evidence and reflective practices to enhance clinical effectiveness. This program of study has been developed in close collaboration with practicing mental health nurses. It is expected that students are already working in mental health care. Credit for prior learning will be able to be given to registered nurses with other postgraduate qualifications and upon graduation students will be able to apply for credentialing with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses.
