Employment opportunities
With oceans covering 71 per cent of the earth's surface, marine biologists will be instrumental in examining the effects of climate change, pollution, overfishing and their impact on the food chain, as well as identifying the exciting potential for new pharmaceuticals and biomedical applications and protecting endangered species. You can work in many areas of research and education including: ecotourism; engineering and consulting companies; fisheries laboratories; food technology; marine parks; marine resource development; marine science institutes; museums; oil companies; pharmacology; planning and management; power-generating authorities; teaching; the fishing and aqua-culture industries; universities; and wildlife conservation.
