Bahasa Indonesia is the official language of Indonesia, the fourth most populous and largest Muslim majority nation. With more than 300 million speakers, Indonesian is the fifth most widely spoken language in the world. The Indonesian minor covers Indonesian history, politics, culture and society. Indonesian is also commonly studied together with majors in International Relations, Business, Law and Development. In the federal government's 2012 White Paper on 'Australia in the Asian Century', Indonesian was identified as one of the crucial language skills areas for development. The Australian government has also invested heavily in a free trade deal with Indonesia (IA-CEPA). Indonesian at UQ is available for beginning, intermediate and advanced students.
