Why study General Civil Engineering?
Using a blend of emerging technologies and advanced analytical skills they contribute to a wide variety of projects that provide the infrastructure and intelligence to improve global societies. The broad skills that UQ Civil Engineers develop across a range of areas such as environmental, fire safety, geotechnical, structural, transport, water and marine engineering are highly sought after by employers in the engineering professional but also more broadly in the business, finance and management fields. The Major in General Civil Engineering aims to equip students with the capacity to immediately contribute to a broad range of civil engineering related projects. As part of this major, your fundamental knowledge of all of the sub-disciplines of civil engineering will be applied to solve and manage engineering problems across the natural and built environments, including building design, dams and flood protection systems, analysis and design of earth structures and foundations, transport system design and analysis, environmental engineering and pollution management. This expertise will position you to immediately contribute to traditional and new projects right across the Civil Engineering profession.
