Why study Professional and Workforce Development?
Healthcare is a service industry, with almost half of the workforce being clinicians. Professional development of the current clinical workforce, training the upcoming workforce and developing new roles and skills are personal, professional and system requirements. Furthermore, healthcare professionals are increasingly obligated to assume leadership roles, motivating and influencing teams and responding to the need to continuously evolve professional roles and teamwork models. A focus in this field of study will enable the health professional to provide leadership in clinical education or workforce design and development. All portions of these studies are also offered as continuing education modules. Persons wishing to be awarded a Graduate Certificate in Health Sciences must complete at least one-third of the 8 units of the Graduate Certificate program while specifically enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Health Sciences at UQ.
