Why study Crop Production?
Using the science and technologies associated with crop rotation, plant breeding, plant physiology, soil classification and fertility, and the control of weeds, insects and other pests, crop production is the effective design and management of sustainable agricultural systems for enhancing the yields of pasture, fruit, vegetable, nursery and floricultural crops.
As a crop production specialist you will advise on the adoption of best management practices by farmers which will lead to higher yields while providing environmental protection for the specific site. You will develop a scientifically grounded appreciation of factors such as water, tillage and harvest management, hybrid/variety selection, disease control, precision planting and plant nutrition to achieve these goals.
