Why study Civil Engineering?
The BE(Hons) (program code: 2342) has been discontinued from 2020, as the program has undergone a restructure and has a new program code for students commencing in 2021.
Students commencing prior to 2021, should follow the course and program information for previous years . It is recommended that students go to the transition checklists for course information, as a number of courses may now be renamed, recoded or unavailable due to the program re-structure in 2021. Approved substitutions for your courses can be found in the relevant checklist .
Pre-2021 Students wanting to follow the 2021 structure will be required to program change and should seek academic advice prior to requesting the change.
If you commenced the BE(Hons) from 2021 onwards please follow the 2021 structure.
What you can study
It is recommended that international students entering Year 3 of the program with 2 years of credit should commence in Semester 1. Those who want to commence in Semester 2 should contact the School of Engineering for assistance.

Employment opportunities
Civil engineers mostly work for private industry, commonwealth, state and local government, for consulting engineering firms, construction companies, mining companies and research establishments. A career in civil engineering is likely to take you overseas.
Within the private sector, consulting civil engineers are engaged to plan, design, manage and supervise works. They provide expert services to the client, advising financially and technically and undertaking the planning, coordination and technology of projects, often from first concepts through to completion.
In the public sector, the state and federal government departments and authorities responsible for railways, roads, harbours, housing and construction, all employ civil engineers. City councils and regional shires also need the services of civil engineers.
