Why study Aviation Nursing?
The scope of practice for Registered Nurses in aviation nursing differs from that of their colleagues in hospital and clinics. This practice differential arises from their relative contextual and professional isolation and their reduced access to support services. In addition, the broad variety and severity of patient they will care for increases the demand for Master's prepared Registered Nurses with advanced understanding of health assessment, diagnosis and management of the health care needs of people during their period of aviation nursing. This field of study has been developed in close collaboration with Royal Flying Doctors Services (RFDS), Queensland. It is expected that students already are working in aviation nursing, and they most likely have Rural and Isolated Practice endorsement for Registered Nurses (RIPERN). Credit for prior learning will be able to be given for RIPERNs or registered nurses with other postgraduate qualifications, particularly in rural and remote practice.
