Course description
This course is for postgraduate students who are speakers of English as a second language. It seeks to develop academic literacy skills through online and face-to-face training in developing arguments, critical thinking, understanding disciplinary writing expectations and practices, and understanding academic language and referencing conventions. Students will review articles relevant to their research in order to understand the writing conventions of their own discipline, while working to develop skills in academic writing and how this is different from IELTS-type writing. Students will work towards the completion of a written genre specific to their disciplinary area, while working in groups on problem-solving and critical reflection.
