Course description

This course outlines the principle concepts and definitions of strategic planning in a travel and tourism management context. The course examines private sector strategic planning (business planning) as well as tourism destination planning and policy. Key theories and concepts applicable to both public and private sector tourism strategic planning are examined including: policy instruments, implementation and evaluation; tourism policy and planning processes; and, public sector planning at the national, state, regional and local level. The course assessment is designed so that students can apply these concepts through an experiential learning activity.
