Course description

The purpose of this course is to position and detail new product and service development (NPSD) as critical business processes and through innovation, underpins sustainable growth, especially in new and emerging markets. As such, the course is particularly relevant for students and managers of innovation who are interested in exploring new products and services as an asset class and hence underpin market success for the organization, and its ecosystem. Course design is based around four key areas underpinning NPSD as a driver of innovation and business growth. Part 1 establishes the connection between NPSD and organizational performance. Part 2 examines, through case studies of emerging technology companies, the framework that are currently informing effective NPSD practice. Part 3 explores the innovators and entrepreneurs and the strategic and portfolio planning utilized to create new markets. Part 4 presents considerations relevant to creating the innovation ecosystem necessary to support innovation driven, NPSD processes. Graduates of the course will develop an understanding for the knowledge and skills for formulating and implementing NPSD as organization-wide processes for growth and renewal.
