Course description
This course introduces students to the intellectual foundations of social work practice relevant to the contemporary institutional environments of professional practice. It will provide the base for advanced study in social work practice and for participation in knowledge building and utilisation. The objectives of the course are to: examine the development and use of theory in practice; analyse the historical and geographical origins of contemporary theories for practice; identify and critically analyse key contemporary practice approaches and engage students in building theories for practice grounded in their professional practice. Students are to undertake this course towards to the start of their MSW degree.
