Seeks to introduce students to the importance of housing issues and services in a social work practitioner context. Students will gain an appreciation of the contexts in which housing policy and services exist, the key concepts which inform housing assistance delivery, as well as a range of housing assistance issues and challenges in Australia. The course specifically aims to assist students to develop the capacity to adopt critical approaches in assessing housing issues, and assistance options for people in housing need.
This course also seeks to facilitate and support the development of a range of professional practice skills which promote an understanding of human service delivery issues and debates as they relate to Australian housing and other social work fields. A focus on closely managed team work as part of the elective is designed to promote the enhancement of cooperative and collaborative working approaches, in the context of housing issues and challenges.
