Course description
FINAL OFFERING SEMESTER 2, 2007. The thesis development and proposal course is designed to assist students to become skilled at processes of project and research design in the context of developing their own particular area of study. Students will learn to identify existing methods of social research and different theoretical perspectives in the social sciences. They will learn how to critically assess, evaluate and examine information and how to apply theories and methods to their own specific research problem. Students will develop a proposal that identifies a researchable problem from the social sciences and places it in a theoretical tradition with a justification for the area of study and a description of an appropriate methodology and analysis. The development of a proposal is designed to assist students to learn about research and scholarship in the social sciences and to be able to identify the particular scholarly context in which their own research is situated. Part-time students commencing in sem 1 enrol in SOSC8018 for 2 semesters. Part-time students commencing in sem 2 enrol in SOSC8019 for 2 semesters. Students wishing to complete this course in one sem enrol in SOSC8004.
