Course description
Study Tour: Thailand and Cambodia - Religion, Identity and Nation: the Roots of Indic Culture in Contemporary Southeast Asia. Ancient Indic culture in the form of Hinduism and Buddhism has profoundly affected the history, religion and politics of most Southeast Asian states. With the re-emergence of India as a growing economic power these ancient connections are being revived. This study tour will study aspects of Indic culture in Southeast Asia through visits to some of the most famous sites of Indic culture in Thailand and Cambodia, including the famous Angkor Wat. Features: Visits to major Indic religious sites in Thailand and Cambodia including Ayutthaya, Phanom Rung, Phimai, Phrea Vihear and Angkor Wat; interaction with local academics and students; and visits to leading academic institutions.
