Course description
This course gives a broad introduction to global health and the way in which global disease priorities and major health problems are managed in development settings. The course examines the global health initiatives that address the key disease groups identified by the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) - AIDS, TB and Malaria - together with other global priorities. It also focuses on the health system capacity needed to support and scale up interventions to address the MDGs and these global disease priorities in particular. The course covers assessment of disease burden by cause, prevention, management and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases and other health problems. The course also addresses the major themes of health system strengthening: health services, health workforce, health information system, access to essential medical products, vaccines and technologies, health financing, and leadership and governance.
