Module description
Disaster management research is global, inter-disciplinary and designed to enhance the ways in which we build resilience and then respond to disastrous events. However, public servants must often perform disaster management duties without ever being made aware of the universe of disaster management research that exists to help them perform their roles. This module has been designed to remedy this problem. It has two aims. The first is to `open up¿ the world of disaster management research to the time-poor disaster management professional by introducing them to the big ideas, cutting-edge concepts, and contemporary theories of disaster management research. This aim will allow the disaster management professional to locate themselves and their roles in relation to a world of global research. The second aim is to show those who must prepare and respond to disasters how they can adapt and apply research to their own professional context in ways which will allow them to better achieve their disaster management objectives.
