Semester 1 2014 : The Responsibility to Protect in Global Politics The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) refers to international efforts to protect populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity. R2P is a developing international norm which attempts to reconcile three often-competing sets of ideas: the established norms of state sovereignty and non-intervention, the knowledge that states have a responsibility to protect their populations but are often responsible for atrocities, and the international community¿s responsibility toward non-citizens when states to do not have the capacity or will to protect them. This is a restricted entry course and School consent must be obtained before enrolling. Please contact the School's Senior Administration Officer (Academic), prior to the start of semester. This course allows students to study emerging issues in the field of political science or international studies. Students cannot enrol in this course as a general elective.
