Course description
This course examines the main developments in the evolution of the international system from ancient Greece and Rome, through medieval and renaissance Europe to the emergence of the modern system. The modern international system will be studied through a focus on the Peace of Westphalia, the French Revolution, the emergence of nationalism and the rise of liberalism to explore the continuities and changes evident in the sovereign state and international system.
