Course description
Paramedic Clinical Placement 2 provides students with their second block of four weeks full-time practical experience with the Queensland Ambulance Service. Students will work as the third officer on an emergency ambulance vehicle and will be expected to perform as a functional team member under the instruction of the ambulance crew. Students will be expected to demonstrate a higher level of knowledge and skills as compared to Paramedic Clinical Placement 1 (PMDC1303) as they will have undertaken further study in the interim period. Students will have undertaken courses in Cardiovascular (PMDC2101) and Respiratory (PMDC2102) Conditions & Emergencies as well as Clinical Skills 1 (PMDC2100) where they will have practiced various paramedic skills including patient assessment, specifically of the cardiorespiratory system. Students will therefore be expected to demonstrate this increased knowledge and skill by contributing to patient assessment and treatment, particularly with patients presenting with these conditions. Students will also be expected to demonstrate significant knowledge and understanding of ambulance procedures, processes and documentation, building on the practical experience gained in the first placement. Variations in exposure to patient volume and variety will be supplemented by simulated learning and practical teaching.
