Course description
This rotation, conducted in the hospital setting, is designed to provide students with the basic pre-operative, post-operative and acute care skills required by PAs in the general practice setting. Students will care for surgery patients from admission through discharge, refining their history taking skills and physical examination techniques as well as assisting surgeons in the operating theatre. Students develop skills in the management of urgent clinical care of patients presenting to the emergency department. The pathophysiology and management of surgical diseases commonly encountered in the primary care setting will be emphasised.
