Course description

In this course, you will learn about the protozoan, helminth and arthropod parasites that cause disease in humans and our companion-animals. The course covers: parasite identification (microscopy and laboratory tests); host-range (species-specificity); site-of-infection (tissue and organ); parasite pathogenicity (disease potential); modes of transmission (spread of infections); differential diagnosis; treatment and control (cure and prevention). You will consider population, organismal, cellular and molecular biology. The course is pertinent to students of microbiology, medicine, veterinary and biological sciences, and biomedical research.
