Course description
The aim of this course is for students to consolidate and extend their theoretical and clinical knowledge to the provision of paediatric and primary health nursing care. This course introduces students to the role of the registered nurse in providing comprehensive, evidence informed, holistic patient- and family-centred care to infants, children, adolescents, and adults across diverse paediatric and primary health care settings. It takes a broad socioecological approach to understanding the complex interplay between social and biological determinants of health, and examines the use of health promotion and disease prevention strategies to support health and healthy development across the lifespan. Students examine key principles for providing safe, effective, age-appropriate care in the paediatric and primary health care settings, including legal, ethical and cultural considerations when planning, delivering and evaluating care for children, individuals, and communities.
