Course description
This course has been specifically developed to provide registered nurses with an interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with advanced knowledge and skills in the assessment and clinical treatment of IBD. Students will be able to perform an advanced physical assessment on the person with IBD. Students will gain clinical experience across all IBD patient care settings including observation of surgical IBD operating theatre sessions, the follow up of patients in OPD as well as participate in medical IBD teaching rounds. In addition students will work with gastroenterologists and endoscopists to observe and assist with upper endoscopies, colonoscopies and capsule endoscopes. Students will develop educational tools for a variety of patients with IBD based on evidence based practice guidelines, cultural and social contests. Through a case based approach studetns will also develop a family centred framework for the management of IBD.
