Course description
This course examines historic and contemporary collecting practices in museums and the principles and practices of collection management. It addresses current trends in collecting, contemporary debates about the meaning of objects and collections, and considers how contemporary collection policies relate to institutional goals, legal and ethical issues and community access. The practical activities of collection management, including information systems, handling and preventive conservation will be examined through case studies and site visits.
