Course description
This course will introduce the student to caring for women who have complex health needs in pregnancy. They will build upon their understanding of the midwife's role to appreciate the interaction of midwives with the wider health care team when collaboratively caring for a woman with major medical problems through pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period. Using an example of a pregnant woman who is being treated for essential hypertension, and develops eclampsia, students will learn about the importance of ongoing risk assessment and respect for professional boundaries and collaborative care.
