Course description

(offered in semester 2 in odd years only) Metric spaces revisited. Banach spaces: linear operators & functionals; uniform boundedness principle; Hahn-Banach, closed graph & open mapping theorems. Dual spaces, weak & strong convergence; adjoints. Hilbert spaces: orthogonality; projections; Riesz reprentation theorem. Complete continuity. Fredholm alternative.
