Course description
NOT 2008. This course is concerned with how the criminal law speaks of and approaches Indigenous defendants. It examines the response of the criminal law to Indigenous people in relation to a range of issues including confessional material, drinking regulation, sexual assault, criminal law defences and sentencing. The course explores the historical connections between current criminal law responses and those developed during the 1950s assimilation period.
