Course description
This course undertakes a comparative examination of patent protection in a number of key jurisdictions. It will cover a range of topics including: the procedures for obtaining patents; the criteria for patentability (notably subject-matter, obviousness, novelty, description, and utility), infringement, and defences, as well as remedies for infringement. The course will also look at the way that topical issues such as gene patents, business methods, and patenting nature are dealt with in different countries. The course will also look at key International treaties and how they impact upon national patent regimes.
