Course description
This course introduces students to the practical and theoretical foundations of History. By questioning how historians examine, interpret, and write about the past, it challenges students to understand the heritage, philosophy, and ideals on which the discipline is based. Engaging with a variety of 'means' and 'modes' of representing the past, we ask: 'What is History?' 'Is there such as thing as historical objectivity, meaning, and truth?' `What elements have shaped history as a professional/academic discipline?'
