Course description
An examination of the Islamic Civilisation from its beginning in 632 to the onslaught of the Mongols and the sacking of Bagdad in 1258, that will provide an overview of the rich historical (conquest, institutions), political (Shii, Sunni, Ismaili, and Fatimid dynasties and principalities), intellectual (Islamic law, theology, mysticism, translation movement, philosophy, sciences), and cultural (literature, Belles Lettres) developments that took place during that period.
