Course description

Research Methods exposes students to, and engage them in, a range of traditional and contemporary research practices relevant to the arts and humanities. Students receive practical training in the use of a range of digital and analogue research tools and materials, gaining skills in the use of archival and published material to support hands-on research practice. A semester-long research project, alongside specific skills development assignments, allows students to experience an extended engagement with a subject area that will inspire and challenge them. Students will undertake both independent and group work to develop skills in collaboration, practical analysis, and a robust knowledge base for the creation of a lasting, publically available, digital outcome from their research. Students will gain an understanding of Digital Humanities and its impact on research, teaching and public engagement in the arts and humanities. The course is adaptable and able to cater for the interests of students undertaking majors in: Communications, Media and Cultural Studies as well as Journalism; Australian Studies, English Literature and Drama.
