Course description
This course introduces students to examples of the best contemporary writing in English, from a range of cultures. It complements the focus on classic literature in ENGL1800. Genres include the novel, the graphic novel, and poetry and authors studied are Simon Armitage, Alison Bechdel, J. M. Coetzee, Louise Doughty, Jennifer Egan, and Ian McEwan. In addition to providing a grounding in contemporary literature, this course teaches creative writing and critical reading and writing skills.
