Course description

Teaching is a multi-faceted profession. Becoming a teacher requires commitment and dedication to lifelong learning and personal growth through reflection. This course provides an introduction to school life through workshops and school visits. Observation of practice will be provided to enable the opportunity for personal development and growth. Furthermore, practice in the design and implementation of lessons or segments of lessons will also be a feature of this course. Therefore the focus of this course is on the development of planning for lessons and segments of lessons along with the development of observation skills and understanding the importance of communication in a school context. This course is developmental and will be the basis for the professional experience courses in the Professional Year. This course contains 5 single days and a two-week block in a school setting organised by the School of Education. The two-week block follows the exam block at the end of semester. You are advised to keep this in mind when making holiday plans. You must register to be added to the permission list to enrol.
