Course description

Teaching is a multi-faceted profession. Becoming a teacher requires commitment and dedication to lifelong learning and personal growth through reflection. This course provides a further introduction to school life through workshops, school visits and a block practicum. Observation of practice will be provided to enable the opportunity for personal development and growth. Furthermore, practice in the design and implementation of units/lessons will also be a feature of this course. Therefore the focus of this course is on the development of sequences of lessons with further development of observation skills and understanding the importance of communication in a school context. During this course, the professional standards of the Queensland College of Teachers will be introduced and referred to. BEd (MYS): This course is developmental and builds on EDUC1725 and EDUC2722 and provides a basis for the subsequent courses, EDUC3724 and EDUC4724. The course will also build on and incorporate knowledge developed across the first and second years of the Bachelor of Education program. Students are required to complete 5 single days and a 2 week block practicum in schools. BA/BEd (MYS): This course is developmental. During this course, the importance and implementation of observational skills will be developed. Lesson planning building to planning for sequences of lessons will be covered. Students are required to complete 10 single days a 2 week block practicum in schools.
