Course description

In an era of rapid change and uncertainty, futures thinking empowers designers to anticipate emerging challenges and opportunities, shaping strategic, future-focused design interventions.

This course explores futures studies theories and strategic foresight methods, equipping students with the tools to critically analyse, discuss, and respond to contemporary and future design challenges. It provides an opportunity to reflect on evolving design practices, challenge conventional problem-solving approaches, and examine the ethical implications of designing for alternative futures.

Through scenario development, you will explore alternative futures, apply foresight methods to create and communicate experiential future narratives, and develop strategic design recommendations that drive positive change.
