Course description

The circular economy is a transformative framework that addresses climate change and global sustainability challenges by decoupling economic growth from the consumption of finite resources. It reimagines production and consumption systems, ensuring that materials, products, and resources remain in continuous circulation through strategies such as maintenance, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacturing, and recycling.

By embedding circular economy principles into the design process, designers can challenge traditional linear production models and contribute to a more regenerative economy that benefits people, businesses, and the environment.

This second-year design studio course equips students with the knowledge and skills to apply circular economy principles in design practice. Through a project-based approach, you will use design methods to define and address sustainability challenges while developing service-centred solutions. You will learn to critically assess the environmental and social impacts of your proposals and gain confidence in advocating for sustainable design strategies and ethical values.
