Course description

This second-year design studio course introduces the importance of design in shaping how people experience the world around them. User-centred design is a way of designing products or services by focusing on the needs and behaviours of the people who will interact them.

In this course, you will learn how design influences human behaviour and can give new meaning to objects and environments.

User-Centred Design is taught in a studio setting, where you will apply the design process and relevant methods to develop tangible solutions to address a specific problem within the constraints of a defined project brief.

You will learn to assess and understand design problems, considering the context, constraints, and opportunities involved. Prototyping will help you test and improve your designs, gathering user feedback to refine and improve your designs while considering the balance of function, aesthetics, and practicality. You will develop practical solutions to meet specific project challenges and communicate your process, ideas and design outcomes using a range of 2D and 3D tools.
