Course description

This hands-on course introduces students manufacturing, assembly principles and prototyping in the design context. Prototyping is essential to create tangible versions of design ideas, test functionality with users, iterate and refine design concepts, and validate design ideas. In this course, students will learn about a range of materials and techniques (subtractive and additive manufacturing) to create physical prototypes used throughout the design process, enabling them to choose materials and prototyping methods to best respond to design requirements. Students will be introduced to emerging manufacturing technologies such as Computer Assisted Design (CAD) and 3D printing and apply their learnings to respond to a design brief. This course is an opportunity for students to familiarise themselves with a variety of CAD software with various functionalities relevant to the design industry.
