Course description
The course introduces concepts associated with evidence-based criminal justice policy development and is presented in seminar style incorporating a mix of teaching and learning methods including lectures, guest speakers, class discussions, practical activities and collaborative group work. The semester is divided into four, three week modules: Module 1: Evidence-based Policy in Criminal Justice settings. Module 2: Policy in Practice: Criminal Justice settings (police, courts, corrections). Module 3: Policy in Practice: Outside Criminal Justice settings (health, corporations, local council). Module 4: Keeping it real: Key considerations and challenges for policy in the real world. Formal lectures provide an understanding of key issues related to evidence-based crime policies, providing a framework for analysing a range of contemporary crime and justice policies and introducing a range of techniques used to generate and evaluate evidence-based policies. The course will also include a number of guest speakers (criminal justice personnel) who will provide unique insights into selected policy issues.
