Course description

The threats posed to nation states, businesses and individuals by cyber criminals are expanding in reach and developing in their levels of technical sophistication. To counter such threats effectively requires the cyber security specialist to possess a detailed understanding of the "why's" and "how's" of cyber criminal activity - why an individual might commit a cyber crime and, in turn, how such crimes are committed against a range of targets. This course focusses on the offender and the ways in which the cyber criminal undertakes his / her illegal activities. The course will explore the processes associated with cyber crime risk / threat profiling undertaken by intelligence / security / law enforcement agencies. Students will also develop an understanding of and appreciation for the wide-ranging impacts that cyber crimes have on victims.
